Florence Slow gems in the Oltrarno

Authentic places, stores and corners within walking distance of the guesthouse

Staying at the Foresteria Valdese means discovering Florence starting from the Oltrarno, one of the city’s most authentic neighborhoods. Amid artisan workshops, lesser-known museums and squares frequented by residents, this area retains a quieter, everyday pace while being just minutes from the main monuments of the historic center.

Stores, gardens and museums in the neighborhood

Strolling between Via Maggio and Via dei Serragli, one encounters workshops where restorers, goldsmiths and leather craftsmen work, custodians of traditions that are part of the city’s history.

The Torrigiani Garden, which can be visited by appointment, is one of the largest private historic gardens in Europe and is an unexpected place of quiet in the heart of the Oltrarno.

Not far away is the Stefano Bardini Museum, recognizable by its famous blue rooms and rich collection of artworks that tell centuries of Florentine history.

Walks between squares and great masterpieces

The squares of the Oltrarno, especially at sunset, come alive with an authentic atmosphere among residents, students and small neighborhood locals.

A short walk also takes you to some of the city’s most famous sites: the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, the Accademia Gallery with Michelangelo’s David, and the Bargello National Museum, one of the most important museums dedicated to Renaissance sculpture.
