Florence: Text, Materia Prima Festival and the major Mark Rothko exhibition.
For literature lovers from Feb. 27 to March 1 there is Text [How to become a book], a publishing fair held annually at the Stazione Leopolda between presentations, meetings with authors and authors and publishing houses from all over Italy, organized by Pitti Immagine in collaboration with the Todo Modo bookstore.

From March 14 to August 23, 2026, the Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi presents. And then theater: from March 4 to April 14 at the Cantiere Florida Theater and other venues around the city, the 13th edition of Materia Prima Festival, an event dedicated to the most interesting productions on the contemporary scene, curated by Murmuris.

Rome: Alessandro Barbero, Max Richter and an exhibition on Agnès Varda
From Feb. 25 to May 25, Villa Medici pays tribute to the photographic work of artist and filmmaker Agnès Varda (1928-2019) through the first major retrospective dedicated to her in Italy, entitled Agnès Varda. Here and there, between Paris and Rome 130 original prints, film excerpts, publications, documents, posters, stage photographs and objects that belonged to her for a journey through the places and figures that inspired her, tracing the path of an exceptional artist.

As part of the Lessons in History offered by the Auditorium Parco della Musica, a review to discover nine events that took place in as many world cities, recounted by the protagonists of contemporary culture, on March 8 historian and popularizer Alessandro Barbero will be the protagonist with a meeting entitled Moscow 1941. Venice: the Carnival, the Children’s Carnival and La Traviata at La Fenice
The Carnival of Venice, running through Feb. 17, this year celebrates the Olympics with a theme that interweaves history, art and sports in a tribute to the universal power of play and challenge.

Until February 15, it will also be possible to participate in the Venice Biennale International Kids’ Carnival at Ca’ Giustinian, which for this specific edition will open up to the themes of sports challenge and tradition. The program is aimed at schools, families and citizens. All activities are free of charge,

Also, opera. From Feb. 8 to 17 at La Fenice La Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi. The masterpiece will be offered in the historic staging that inaugurated the reconstructed Fenice after the fire. The staging, by Canadian director Robert Carsen, with sets and costumes by Patrick Kinmonth, more than 20 years after its debut has become an indispensable piece of Fenice programming.
