Help Us Care for the Earth is the new campaign promoted by Waldensian Homes for environmental sustainability

The Waldensian Diaconia and the Waldensian Church have always paid close attention to environmental issues and the concept of sustainability.

Respect for and protection of the environment, as well as the proper use of the resources at our disposal, are elements present in the design and management of all the services that Diaconia Valdese promotes.

Also the Waldensian Homes, nonprofit hotels and guesthouses run by the Waldensian Diaconia, which through their own help support social welfare and educational activities aimed at all and sundry, seek to keep this sensitivity to environmental issues alive.

Our sustainability campaign

In order to tell you in a comprehensive but concise manner about our attempt to transform environmental concern into concrete actions through the adoption of good practices and small daily gestures-and having above all future generations in our hearts-we have created information panels that you will find hanging in the Diaconia’s various accommodation facilities, located in the most beautiful locations in Italy, by the sea, in the hills and in cities of art.

As has emerged from various studies over the years, and which find confirmation in what happened a few months ago with the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic, it now seems clear that we need to take an attitude of utmost responsibility and sustainability towards the environment in which we live. Indeed, pandemics are not random events but direct consequences of our impact on natural ecosystems.

We didn’t just carry out a campaign, we concretely reduced the environmental impact of the facilities.

Our concrete actions

In some cases, we have installed photovoltaic panels, replaced old boilers with low-emission boilers, replaced traditional light bulbs with LED bulbs and/or light bulbs that turn on with motion sensors; to reduce waste, we have introduced dispensers for jams, honey, and fruit juices in the breakfast rooms, as well as equipped the bathrooms with soap dispensers – a clarification is in order here! Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we have reviewed and reorganized the service in the breakfast rooms and restaurant rooms, as well as in every environment of the facilities, so that the regulations and recommendations on hygiene prevention are respected – we have installed flow reducers to contain water consumption and, when possible, we have favored zero-mile food products.

Our wish is to meet you soon, in new ways but with the same desire to share as always, to start again together by putting into practice, at work and in our free time, those often very simple actions that go in the direction of greater respect for the environment and for Creation.
