Florence: Text, Materia Prima Festival and the major Mark Rothko exhibition.<\/h2>\n\n

For literature lovers from Feb. 27 to March 1<\/strong> there is Text [How to become a book]<\/mark><\/strong><\/a>, a publishing fair held annually at the Stazione Leopolda<\/strong> between presentations, meetings with authors and authors and publishing houses from all over Italy, organized by Pitti Immagine in collaboration with the Todo Modo bookstore.<\/p>\n\n

From March 14 to August 23, 2026, the Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi<\/strong> presents. Rothko in Florence<\/mark><\/strong><\/a>, one of the most important exhibitions ever devoted to Mark Rothko (1903-1970), a master of modern art, curated by Christopher Rothko and Elena Geuna, An exhibition tracing Rothko’s entire career, with more than 70 works from prestigious private collections and major international museums, including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Tate in London, the Centre national d’art et de culture Georges-Pompidou in Paris, and the National Gallery of Art in Washington.<\/p>\n\n

From Feb. 25 to May 25, Villa Medici<\/strong> pays tribute to the photographic work of artist and filmmaker Agn\u00e8s Varda (1928-2019) through the first major retrospective dedicated to her in Italy, entitled Agn\u00e8s Varda. Here and there, between Paris and Rome <\/mark><\/a> <\/strong>130 original prints, film excerpts, publications, documents, posters, stage photographs and objects that belonged to her for a journey through the places and figures that inspired her, tracing the path of an exceptional artist.<\/p>\n\n

Venice: the Carnival, the Children’s Carnival and La Traviata at La Fenice<\/h2>\n\n

The Carnival of Venice<\/mark><\/strong><\/a>,<\/mark> running through Feb. 17<\/strong>, this year celebrates the Olympics with a theme that interweaves history, art and sports in a tribute to the universal power of play and challenge.<\/p>\n\n

Until February 15<\/strong>, it will also be possible to participate in the <\/mark>Venice Biennale International Kids’ Carnival<\/mark><\/strong><\/a> <\/mark>at Ca’ Giustinian<\/strong>, which for this specific edition will open up to the themes of sports challenge and tradition. The program is aimed at schools, families and citizens. All activities are free of charge, <\/p>\n\n

The staging, by Canadian director Robert Carsen, with sets and costumes by Patrick Kinmonth, more than 20 years after its debut has become an indispensable piece of Fenice programming. <\/p>\n\n
